Minnesota court set bail of $1 million for police officer Derek Chauvin, who is charged with the unintentional murder of African-American George Floyd during his detention. That’s the data from the court records.
At this point, it is not known whether Chauvin intends to use this condition for his release from custody. According to USA Today, the same bail is set for three other policemen accused of aiding and abetting the murder – Thomas Lane, Alexander Cueng and Tu Tao.
Chauvin is charged with three counts: second-degree murder without intent for serious crime; third-degree murder for an extremely dangerous act; and manslaughter in the second degree for negligence creating unreasonable risk. If his guilt is proven, he faces years of imprisonment. The first court session with the participation of Chauvin is scheduled for Monday, June 8.
