20 life truths that will inspire you to change

Many people want to change their lives, but don’t know how. Entrepreneur and author James Altucher shares his advice.

James Altucher posted on his blog a list of life lessons he has learned throughout his career. Perhaps they will inspire you to make some changes for yourself.

1. Your personality is shaped by the people you spend time with. Don’t waste it on people who poison your life.

2. Apply the kaizen strategy. Get better at what you love every day. Even an improvement of 1% in a year will help you make significant progress. That’s a lot more than the other 99.9% of people do.

3. being free means not depending on other people’s decisions for everything that concerns your self-development.

4. Gratitude and fear cannot coexist with each other. All the decisions we make are either based on the desire to develop or on fear. But only the former moves us in the direction our inner compass indicates.

5. There are different groups of people. Conventionally they can be designated by the signs +, – and =. Spend more time with people in the “+” category. They are those who are better in something than you are, from whom you can learn. The “=” group are those who are on the same level as you, you can grow and develop together. And “-” are those who are behind you, you can teach them something yourself.

6. To achieve something in any sphere, you need energy: physical, emotional, creative, spiritual. Try to replenish each type of energy.

7. To be healthy physically, eat right, move more and get enough sleep. These are the three main factors of health.

8. To be healthy emotionally, spend more time with those who love and appreciate you.

9. To develop your creativity, write down 10 new ideas every day. It doesn’t matter if they’re good or bad. According to Altucher, after three months, a super ability to generate ideas emerges.

10. To maintain mental balance, don’t let regrets about the past and anxiety about the future distract you from the present. The present moment is the only thing we have.

11. Always try to help others. It’s not about money, although you can share it too. You have to change the mindset of giving without expecting to benefit yourself or regretting that you’re losing something.

12. don’t give up on your principles. Living in general is difficult, but without fidelity to your principles you have to live two lives. It takes away your strength and makes you unhappy. So clearly define your values and principles and don’t be afraid to follow them.

13. Doubt everything you think you know and understand. Many facts that seemed indisputable at one time have changed. Don’t believe something just because it says or is written. Always ask questions. This will develop a skeptical mindset and help you succeed faster.

14. We all think irrationally. No wonder we turn out to be right very rarely. Don’t forget that, then maneuvering among successes and failures will be much easier.

15. Don’t put the blame on others. Altusher told me he had lost money on the stock market. He was advised to sue the stockbroker, but he did not do so. He believed that he was to blame himself, because he was the one who made all the decisions, including the decision to follow the stockbroker’s advice. You can always learn something from admitting fault. Analyze your failures and learn from them – that’s the only way you will become a better person.

16. Focus on the process, not the result. If you make an effort, learn, improve, apply advice from more experienced people, read and practice, you just can’t predict the result. After all, you will be better tomorrow than you are today. The result is only a fantasy of the future, and the process is your present. Try to enjoy it.

17. Money is a a byproduct of all of the above.

18. Romantic relationships are a byproduct of all of the above. Don’t shift the responsibility of maintaining your self-esteem to your partner. He has enough problems with his own.

19. Health is a byproduct of all of the above.

20. Every obstacle is an opportunity. Remember this and never give up
