Ottignies – Louvain-la-Neuve announced on Tuesday, in a press release, that the deployment of 5G technology on the municipal territory has been stopped by Proximus.
This was a request that was made to the operator by the municipal college, and the latter said it was delighted to have been heard. He also said that Proximus had undertaken to take part in a public information session during which the project would be explained to citizens. The Ottintois municipal college also invites its inhabitants to take part in the public inquiry organised by BIPT concerning the granting of provisional rights of use in the 3600-3000 MHz band.
” Societal debate and not only a technical one “.
As soon as Proximus announced a few weeks ago that 5G would be deployed on part of the municipal territory, the Ottintois college reacted by specifying that it had not been consulted beforehand and that it demanded that citizens be involved in making such decisions. On Tuesday, he regretted the technical nature of the public inquiry that has been launched, considering it illegible for citizens and surprised at the absence of elements relating to environmental impact, privacy and data protection.
“The subject requires a societal debate and not just a technical one. Many inhabitants are concerned about the impact of the airwaves on health, and we must be able to provide precise answers to their legitimate questions,” the press release drafted by the municipal college of Ottignies – Louvain-la-Neuve states.
