About 20 congressmen from the Republican Party plan to support the impeachment of U.S. President Donald Trump, who is also a Republican. This is reported by CNN, citing sources.
According to the interlocutor of the channel, the number of Trump’s fellow party members who are willing to support his impeachment ranges from 10 to 25.
Earlier, three Republican congressmen publicly expressed their support for the removal of the current U.S. president. These included John Katko (from New York State), Liz Cheney (Wyoming) and Adam Kinzinger (Illinois).
Earlier Tuesday, U.S. Vice President Mike Pence said he opposed Trump’s removal under the 25th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution for failure to serve as president. He expressed this position in a letter to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
On January 11, the House of Representatives published the text of the resolution on Trump’s impeachment. The authors of the document believe that the current U.S. president will remain a threat to national security, democracy and the constitution of the country, based on his actions on the day of the riots near Congress.
