About 36,000 prisoners were released in Iran as part of the fight against COVID-19

The Iranian authorities had released about 36,000 prisoners as part of a new phase of the coronavirus control programme in prisons. This was stated by the head of the country’s prisons organization Mehdi Hajj Mohammadi, reports Tasnim agency.

Thus, since July 8, 36,283 people were released, including both new prisoners and those for whom the term of imprisonment was extended due to the coronavirus.

According to the latest data, more than 276.2 thousand cases of COVID-19 have been revealed in Iran, of which about 14.4 thousand are fatal. Over 240,000 people have been cured of the infection.
