Almost 100 people detained in Italy on suspicion of mafia links

Police in Italy detained 99 people suspected of aiding the local mafia in the city of Bari (southern region of Puglia). The Italian ANSA news agency wrote about it on Monday, April 26.

It is specified that the question is about the Strishulio clan, whose members are accused of arms trafficking, drug trafficking, extortion, causing fights. Mafiosi have been operating in the administrative center of the southern region since 2015.

The detainees are accused of participating in a mafia group and its illegal activities. According to the agency, a total of 147 people are under investigation.

In the summer of 2019, 31 people were detained in Sicily on suspicion of involvement in the Cintorino family mafia group. Assets worth €1 million were seized from them.
