The USS Bonhomme Richard, a universal landing ship of the U.S. Navy, exploded and set fire to at least 11 sailors.
The incident occurred at the Navy base in San Diego.
According to the fire department’s Twitter, the fire is still being put out, and the injured soldiers are receiving medical treatment.
The reasons for the incident have not yet been established. According to some media reports, first there was a fire and then there was an explosion.
Footage published on the Web shows that the fire is extinguished from the water, the ship itself is embraced with black clouds of smoke.
USS Bonhomme Richard joined the Navy in 1998. Its displacement is over 28,000 tonnes, and its length is about 250 metres. Several helicopters are based on the ship, as well as anti-aircraft missile systems.
