U.S. music producer Phil Spector has died, the British BBC reported on January 17.

The report said that the producer passed away on the evening of January 16 “due to natural causes” at the age of 81.

According to Reuters, the death was due to complications from a coronavirus.

The official cause will be announced after the medical examiner’s report.

His death was confirmed by the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation — Spector was serving a prison sentence for the 2009 murder of Hollywood actress Lana Clarkson.

Phil Spector has worked with singers Cher and Tina Turner and the duo The Righteous Brothers. He has worked on orchestral arrangements of the album Let it Be by the cult British band The Beatles.

In addition, the producer is known for developing the technique of recording and arranging music, dubbed “the wall of sound”.
