An unknown ship rammed a coast guard vessel in Venezuela

The passenger ship Resolute under the Portuguese flag sailed into waters that are under Venezuelan jurisdiction, near the island of Tortuga, and then rammed the Coast Guard ship. This was reported on Wednesday, April 1, with reference to the Venezuelan Foreign Ministry.

The incident occurred on the night of March 30. According to the agency, the Resolute ship over 120 m long rammed when the Coast Guard ship came to meet it. As a result of the clash, the Venezuelan ship sank. The crew was rescued by the military.

President Nicolas Maduro has asked the Curaçao authorities for assistance in investigating the incident. According to the Venezuelan authorities, it is possible that there were mercenaries aboard the ship who were planning an attack on the country’s military bases.
