The second this year’s prototype Starship for interplanetary flights developed by the private company SpaceX American engineer Ilon Mask’ burst during tests in Texas. The test was broadcast on YouTube channel LabPadre April 3.
The test was conducted on the outskirts of Boca Chica Village in Texas. The prototype burst at 2:07 local time. The incident occurred while the prototype was being inflated with liquid nitrogen, and Starship SN3 eventually ruptured.
In late February, the second SpaceX prototype burst under the same circumstances. In November 2019, the Starship Mk1 exploded during testing at the same site in Boca Chica. The incident occurred during tests for the maximum cryogenic liquid filling of methane and oxygen tanks. The prototype had the upper part of the ship torn off and was thrown outside the test site.
SpaceX is developing a system for space missions consisting of a fully reusable Super Heavy launch vehicle and the Starship. It will be able to deliver satellites, crews and cargoes to Earth orbits as well as to the Moon and Mars. The ship’s first test flight to an altitude of 20 km was scheduled for December.
