MacRumors received an internal document from Apple recognizing a problem with the flicker and green or gray glow of some iPhone 12 displays.

This document was provided to Apple authorized service centers. The company representatives advised the technical specialists to avoid servicing the affected iPhone and instead to inform the customers that they should update to the latest version of iOS. This clarification assumes that Apple is confident that it will be able to fix the problem with one of the following firmware versions.

The effect of glow appears when the display shows black: for example, in dark mode on screens with minimal content or in video.

According to users, the problem appears when the display brightness is set to 90% or lower. It’s repeated on iOS 14.1, iOS 14.2 and even on the first two betas of iOS 14.3 and affects all models in the iPhone 12 lineup. Some users note that this effect does not appear all the time, sometimes disappearing after a while.

Users of the iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max complained about this problem in the summer of 2020. Everything came back to normal after the release of iOS 13.6.1, which probably explains Apple’s confidence that the problem can be corrected with the new firmware version.
