Arrested policeman in Minneapolis accused of manslaughter

A former police officer arrested in the case of African American George Floyd, who died in Minneapolis shortly after his arrest, was charged with manslaughter. This was reported on Friday, May 29, by Mike Freeman, the local Hennepin County attorney. It was broadcast on his Facebook page.

“I want to report that former police officer Derek Chowin is in custody <...> He has been charged with third degree (manslaughter) ,” the prosecutor said.

The other three former policemen who were present at the scene are still being investigated, Freeman said.

The charges, the prosecutor said, are being brought in record time, as it usually takes several months in such situations.

It was previously reported that Chovin had been arrested. He was the one who kneeled 46-year-old Floyd, who was arrested, and then died in intensive care.
