At least 10 inmates killed trying to escape from prison in Haiti

At least 10 inmates have been killed in an escape attempt from Croix des Bouquets prison in the east of the Haitian capital of Port-au-Prince. RFM Haiti radio station reported the news on Twitter on January 1.

While organizing the escape, the convicts set fire to the prison’s canteen and warehouse. Eight criminals were killed and two more died later in hospital of their wounds.

It was also noted that four police officers were injured.

To date, the situation in the facility is under control and several firearms have been seized.

Earlier in August, six inmates were killed and three others were wounded during riots at the prison in the Ecuadorian city of Quevedo. Among the dead were participants in the massacre that took place on July 5 in La Venus, Los Rios.
