The number of people infected in India with mucormycosis, better known as ‘black fungus’, exceeded 31 thousand. This is reported by television channel NDTV.
Across the country 31,216 cases of the disease have been recorded, 2,109 people have died. Almost half of those infected with the fungus lives in the states of Maharashtra (over 7 thousand cases), Gujarat (almost 5.5 thousand), and Rajasthan (about 3 thousand).
Mucormycosis is mostly diagnosed in patients with coronavirus infection who have been in the ICU and have been on steroids or oxygen support for a long time.
