Boris Johnson and Emmanuel Macron quarrel over Brexit at G7 summit

French President Emmanuel Macron sharply lashed out at British Prime Minister Boris Johnson for trying to put Brexit back on the G7 summit agenda. This is reported by Reuters.

According to the French diplomat, Johnson allegedly moved the topic to issues relating to Brexit. Macron, on the other hand, resented that he was distracting EU countries from pressing issues.

Don’t tell me you didn’t know what you were getting into when you signed up to Britain’s exit from the EU,” the agency quoted Macron as telling Johnson.

British authorities in early March unilaterally extended until October 1 a grace period on the supply of a number of products for Northern Ireland from other parts of the United Kingdom. The period was part of the agreement to leave the EU. It allowed the British to not have to obtain customs phytosanitary certificates when delivering goods to Ulster. The agreement was only supposed to be in effect until April 1.

Earlier, Johnson said that London could suspend part of the Brexit agreement if the EU and London do not resolve the dispute over the rules of trade of goods delivered to Northern Ireland.
