Washington’s decision to suspend funding to the World Health Organization (WHO) cannot be justified against the backdrop of a coronavirus pandemic. This was announced on Wednesday, April 15, by European Union diplomacy chief Joseph Borrel.

“I deeply regret the decision of the United States to suspend funding for WHO. There is no reason to justify this step at a time when her efforts are needed more than ever to help contain and mitigate the Coronavirus pandemic”.

US leader Donald Trump announced the suspension of funding for WHO earlier that day. He said the organization would not receive funding from the United States until the United States examined WHO’s response to the pandemic and confirmed the cover-up of the COVID-19 outbreak. In addition, the US Senate intends to establish China’s role in spreading the infection.

Trump has previously criticized WHO’s work, arguing that the organization pays too much attention to China, although much of its funding comes from the US.
