In an interview with France 24 TV channel, Josep Borrel, the head of diplomacy of the European Union, spoke about the “attack” during his visit to Moscow.
When asked about the alleged insult by the Russian side, he replied that he considered the talks in February to be a manifestation of aggression against him.
“This is an attack, not an insult,” Borrel said.
He also said that the EU’s relations with Moscow are “at a dead end.”
Earlier, on March 24, Borrel called Russia a dangerous neighbor, but called for maintaining channels of communication to resolve issues of mutual interest. Afterwards Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova called his statements insulting and misinformative.
Besides, after the meeting of foreign ministers of Russia and China, Borrell said that the states are aimed at uniting to confront the “Western world. In his opinion, recent meetings of international organizations showed that the European Union is getting closer to the United States and China is getting closer to Russia.
For his part, Russian Ambassador to the EU Vladimir Chizhov assessed such remarks to Russia as concern about the role of unification of European states in the world.
