Britain supports the U.S. strikes against “militia groups attacking coalition bases”. This was announced on Friday, February 26, by Dominic Raab, the kingdom’s foreign minister.

“Britain supports a targeted U.S. response against militia groups attacking coalition bases in an attempt to destabilize the region. We recognize the threat posed by the militants,” Raab wrote on Twitter. Syria was not directly mentioned in the message.

The minister added that the UK shared the intention of the U.S. “to work with partners to de-escalate the situation.”

Earlier on Friday, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said the U.S. had warned the Russian military of an impending strike on Syrian targets four to five minutes before the attack. He recalled that the United States was on the territory of the Syrian Arab Republic illegally.

Lavrov also noted that Moscow wants to understand how Washington plans to strategize about Syria in the future.
