British Consul General in Chongqing, China, Stephen Allison saved a girl drowning in the river, reports Tuesday, November 17, Sky News.

The video depicting the incident was published in social networks by eyewitnesses. It shows a girl slipping on rocks and falling into the river, after which she immediately began sinking. The witnesses were not in a hurry to save her, but just started screaming. Only the 61-year-old British diplomat, having taken off his shoes, rushed to the aid of the girl who had already lost consciousness.

The man quickly swam up to the sinking girl and helped her turn over. From the shore they were thrown a lifeline and pulled to the land. A few minutes later the girl, who according to the TV channel, 24 years old, was already rescued.

The British Embassy in China, in turn, expressed its admiration for the diplomat’s actions.

“We are all immensely proud of our Chongqing Consul General, Stephen Ellison, who jumped into the river on Saturday to save a drowning student,” the diplomat said on Twitter.
