The administration of London on Saturday, September 28, passed to the law enforcement agencies information about possible abuse of power by British Prime Minister Boris Johnson. It is about a time when he was mayor of the British capital.
Authorities are interested in Johnson’s contacts with businesswoman Jennifer Arcuri from the United States. Firms linked to the American woman are believed to have received subsidies of more than 125,000 pounds (in terms of 140,000 euros) from the London budget, The Sunday Times reported earlier.
According to him, Arcuri was part of several British trade delegations. The mayor repeatedly visited the London apartment of the businesswoman, who called him “one of his best friends”, the journalists claim.
The Independent Police Oversight Bureau has been called in to investigate the situation because Johnson was also the head of the Metropolitan Police’s supervisory department while he was mayor. The task of the bureau is to find out whether there are grounds for a full investigation.
The representative of the incumbent prime minister stressed that Boris Johnson “worked hard” as mayor, “promoting our capital in the world” but acted “within the framework of decency.”
