In Germany, a cat named Quarky was banned from running for mayor of Demmin, partly because of his young age.
In April, a new mayor will be elected in Demmin in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. Applicants are already applying to run for office.
The publication reports that Demmin resident Thorsen Lohr sent in an application on behalf of his pet.
However, the pet was rejected for several reasons. In particular, a candidate for the position of mayor must be at least 18 years old, while the cat is only six. In addition, the applicant for the post must have German citizenship. Also on the application there was no personal signature of the animal.
However, the owner of the animal still intends to continue the fight for the cat’s place in the political arena. In particular, Lohr believes that his pet is able to influence the issues of animal protection and the car situation in the city.
