China declared no interest in interfering in US elections

China is not interested in interfering in the U.S. presidential election, said its representatives on Thursday, after U.S. President Donald Trump expressed the view that Beijing will try to achieve his defeat in the November elections.

“The U.S. presidential election is an internal affair, we have no interest in interfering in it,” Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Gen Shuang said at a daily briefing for journalists.

“We hope that people from the US will not involve China in their election policies,” he added.

In an interview with Reuters on Wednesday, Trump said China would “do its best” to lose the election, noting that, in his opinion, Beijing wants its opponent, Democrat Joe Biden, to win the election.
