The head of China’s Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Gao Fu, believes that humanity will face a new virus in the future and suggested a principle of cooperation to prepare to fight it.
Speaking at the International Forum on Science and Technology in Society, he explained that the world is currently struggling not only with a coronavirus pandemic, but also with “infodemia, where actual information and misinformation are intertwined.
However, in the future the world is bound to face the so-called “virus X”, the characteristics of which are not yet known to anyone. It can emerge at any time and in any place, Gao Fu stressed.
“For the future of humanity, it is necessary to work together to solve the problem. In this regard, I propose the ‘four C’s’: cooperation, competition, communication, and coordination, sometimes with a third party,” concluded the expert.
In March, more than 20 heads of state and international organizations called for the development of an international treaty to prevent new pandemics in the future. In particular, the initiative was supported by Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel, President of France Emmanuel Macron, Prime Minister of Great Britain Boris Johnson, President of the European Council Charles Michel and Director General of WHO Tedros Gebreisus.
On January 27, Microsoft founder Bill Gates spoke of the world’s unpreparedness for the next pandemic, which he said could be 10 times worse than the coronavirus situation.
At the same time, in November 2020, the multibillionaire admitted that the new pandemic could start in three years. At the same time, he noted that humanity could be lucky and “it will happen in 20 years.
