China’s ambassador to Russia accused the West of staging protests in Hong Kong

The demonstrations and protests in Hong Kong are funded and organized by the West, Chinese Ambassador to Russia Zhang Hanhui said at a press conference at Russia Today.

“Americans and the West play a very ugly, bad role. All these demonstrations, these protests, chaos, are organized by the West.”

The diplomat also added that Western countries have sent funds and weapons to protesters and “trained radicals and separatists.

“They are doing this to split China in order to create difficulties for its development,” Hanhuei stressed.

On May 24, Foreign Minister Wang Yi, a member of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China, said that Beijing’s draft law on protection of national security in Hong Kong will not affect the rights of city residents and foreign investors.

In response, local residents took to the streets of Hong Kong, who spoke out against the bill. Law enforcement officials used tear gas and water cannons to stop the protests.
