Churchill monument was painted in Prague

Unknown people in the center of Prague doused the monument to British Prime Minister Winston Churchill with red paint. This was reported on Thursday, June 11, the portal expats.cz.

In addition, at the base of the statue were left inscriptions “He was a racist” and ” Black lives matter “.

The monument was installed in the administrative district of Prague 3. The authorities of the municipality called the incident an act of vandalism, the damage is estimated at 750 kroons. The statue of the monument will be cleaned from the municipal budget.

It is noted that the incident is associated with ongoing protests in the U.S. against police brutality due to the death of African American George Floyd.

Thus, the day before during the riots, protesters demolished the statue of Christopher Columbus, installed in Richmond (Virginia), and dumped it in the lake.

According to witnesses, protesters used three ropes to pull the statue off a pedestal. After the monument fell, they dragged the sculpture to a nearby lake and threw it in the water.
