Clashes broke out in Kiev between retired servicemen and the police

In front of the Verkhovna Rada in Kiev, clashes began between protesters by retired employees of the Interior Ministry and the police.

The protesters demand recalculation of pensions, as well as negotiations with the Speaker of the Rada Dmitry Razumkov. The protesters gave the politician half an hour to come out to them.

The demonstrators managed to take away a small metal fence from the police. Pensioners are trying to break through a cordon of law enforcers. There were no reports of casualties.

In parallel, opponents of digital passports demonstrate outside the Rada. Security of the building has been strengthened.

Pensioners of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine have repeatedly demanded to recalculate their pensions in accordance with the law on the National Police, which provides law enforcement officers with more favorable conditions compared to the previous rules.

On the eve of the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Arsen Avakov resigned. This was sought by a special movement “Get Avakov”, whose members are fighting for changes in the law enforcement system.

In June 2020, a rally was held in front of the Verkhovna Rada in support of Avakov’s removal from office. The main complaint about the work of Avakov’s subordinates is corruption and unsatisfactory investigation of criminal cases.
