CNN is accused of violating principles of journalism after interview with Lukashenko

The journalist of the American TV company CNN Matthew Chance, speaking to the President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, sought not to provide answers to viewers, but only to carry out self-propaganda. This opinion was expressed by the BelTA agency after CNN published a fragment of the interview.

The interview with the Belarusian leader was held on September 30. The journalists specified that they agreed to all conditions of the president at the stage of negotiations. The main condition was the absence of exclusions, cuts and additions in the final material.

After the interview, journalist Matthew Chance said that the network had no intention of taking into account the requirements and would use the material as it saw fit.

“Obviously, the purpose of Matthew Chance was not to get answers to the questions and tell the audience of the TV channel, but exclusively self-promotion and outright confrontation in violation of all canons of journalism,” said “BelTA”.

In an interview with CNN, Lukashenko suggested taking U.S. President Joe Biden’s age as the “ultimate benchmark” for governing the country. The President of Belarus, who is now 67 years old, reminded that he’s been in power for almost three decades, but still has not reached the age of the head of the White House.

The Belarusian leader said that a man can be president “for as long as he wants to be, and he will be elected by the people. However, according to Lukashenko, the leader must be healthy and energetic to run the country.
