Composer and songwriter Marilyn Bergman has died

Composer and songwriter, winner of the “Oscar” Marilyn Bergman died at 94 years old. About this on Saturday reported the TV channel CNN.

It is noted that the woman died at her home in Los Angeles, USA, in the presence of her husband and daughter.

“Her condition had been deteriorating for the last couple of years, and in the last few weeks it became clear that she was preparing to leave. She died very peacefully, without pain or suffering,” Bergman’s daughter said in a telephone conversation with the TV station.

According to her, her mother had “pneumonia, which leads to respiratory failure.”

Actress and singer Barbra Streisand responded to information about the composer and songwriter’s death.

“We [Bergman and I] met more than 60 years ago backstage at a small nightclub and have loved each other and worked together ever since. May she rest in peace,” the artist wrote on her Twitter page.

Marilyn Bergman wrote songs with her husband and co-writer Alan Bergman. They were nominated for 16 Academy Awards and won three of them. One of the couple’s major successes was the song The Way We Were from the 1973 film The Way We Were, starring Barbra Streisand. The couple also won two Grammy Awards for that song.

In addition, Bergman was the first woman elected to the board of directors of the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers. In 1994 she became president and chairman of the board of that organization.
