Elizabeth II visited the Royal Navy flagship HMS Queen Elizabeth, affectionately called “Big Lizzie.” This is her first public appearance since Prince Harry’s scandalous interview in which he accused the royal family of “total disregard and indifference” and did not fail to hint again at racist attitudes at Buckingham Palace.
The 95-year-old Elizabeth II has kept a low-key, confident tone in public, as if another attack on the British monarchy didn’t concern her at all. Prince William, who is currently on a business tour of Scotland, is doing the same.
The queen spoke with the ship’s commander, Captain Angus Essenhay and Commodore Stephen Moorhouse, commander of the British Carrier Strike Group (CSG). She arrived at Portsmouth Naval Base by helicopter.
Elizabeth II is still mourning the loss of her beloved husband, Prince Philip, who died April 9 at age 99. She honored the Duke of Edinburgh by wearing a scarab brooch given to her by her husband.
The queen is also surviving the passing of her 5-month-old puppy, Fergus. The pet was given to her by her son, Prince Andrew, to help her cope with the pain of losing Prince Philip. However, the corgi’s life span was too short.
