The news that the 63-year-old anchorwoman was leaving her popular talk show, which has been on the air for 18 years, has spread around the network. In the opening monologue for the new episode, Ellen DeGeneres personally announced the change and explained what prompted her to take this step. The star did not mention last year’s scandal, which visibly affected her reputation, but assured that she had been thinking about leaving the project for several years.
“Today I’m announcing that the next, 19th season will be my last,” Ellen said. – “The last 18 years have changed my life. You all have changed my life. I am eternally grateful to you for watching, laughing, dancing and sometimes crying. This show was the greatest experience of my life, and I owe it to you.”
“I always knew in my heart that season 19 would be my last,” the star continued. – The truth is, I always trust my instincts. My intuition told me that the time was right… 18 years ago, in the very first episode, I said it was going to be a long relationship. And it would continue even when the show was over. But not in this studio. Because you know how I like to move around.”
The final season of The Ellen DeGeneres Show is scheduled to premiere Sept. 13. DeGeneres has promised many surprises and a “trip down memory lanes” for her most loyal fans.
