EU notified Great Britain of Brexit agreement violation

The European Union (EU) has sent official notification to the UK authorities about the violation of the withdrawal agreement. On Thursday, October 1, head of European Commission (EC) Ursula von der Leyen stated this.

She noted that the violation was connected with the British draft law on internal market that contradicts the terms of deal.

“As you know, we called upon Great Britain to eliminate violations in the bill by the end of September. Bill passed yesterday in the same form, the violations have not been eliminated. Therefore, the European Commission decided to send an official notice, which is the first step of the procedure to eliminate violations,” von der Leyen quotes.

She added that London has a month to respond.

At the same time, on September 11, the European Parliament has already urged Great Britain to change the law on domestic markets, which allows violation of bilateral agreement on conditions of country’s exit from the European Union.

At the same time, the British Minister for Special Assignments, Chancellor Michael Gove of the Duchy of Lancaster said that Britain will not withdraw the bill on the domestic market.

In early August, Russian Ambassador to the United Kingdom Andrei Kälin noted that British policy, since the country has withdrawn from the EU, becomes more dependent on U.S. policy.
