European Commission fines BMW and Volkswagen Group for cartel conspiracy

The European Commission has fined BMW and Volkswagen Group, which includes Audi and Porsche, for $875 million. The companies violated the laws of competition in the European Union. The car companies orchestrated an emissions cartel.

Nitrogen oxide abatement techniques were used illegally. Both companies pleaded guilty and want to settle the case. The manufacturers colluded for more than five years.
