The extended sanctions against the Russian gas pipeline Nord Stream-2 were included in the Defense Budget Bill agreed by both chambers of the US Congress. This is stated in an explanatory document to the bill.
Sanctions were called for in both houses of Congress, both in the Senate and the House of Representatives. It is noted that the U.S. president can lift sanctions against individuals based on the country’s interests. The draft also added a requirement to consult with a number of countries when imposing restrictive measures.
