Five dead in teenage attack on kindergarten in Brazil

Three children and two teachers were killed in an attack on a kindergarten in the Brazilian municipality of Saudades (State of Santa Catarina). It is reported by the Mirror newspaper.

According to the newspaper, the attacker was an 18-year-old boy, armed with a knife. During the arrest he attempted to commit suicide. Now the attacker is in hospital in a critical condition.

At the time of the attack there were about 30 students in the kindergarten. More casualties were avoided thanks to the actions of the staff, who locked themselves in the classrooms with the children. The state has declared three days of mourning in connection with the incident.

Earlier, on April 28, an unknown assailant attacked a kindergarten in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region in China, injuring 16 children and two teachers with stab wounds. The attacker was later detained.
