Floyd’s family sued Minneapolis authorities and police officers

The family of African-American George Floyd, who died in police custody, sued the authorities of the State of Minneapolis in Minnesota, where it occurred, as well as the four police officers involved in the arrest. This was reported by Associated Press agency with reference to the lawyer of the relatives of the deceased Benjamin Kramp and other defenders representing their interests.

The suit was filed with the Minnesota District Court.

“The city of Minneapolis has a long history of violating the rights of detainees, especially blacks, which suggests the need for special training and discipline for police officers,” Krump said at a press conference on Wednesday, July 15.

The trial will help set a precedent, he said, that “makes it financially impossible for police to kill marginalized citizens, especially blacks, in the future.
