Former Bay City Rollers vocalist Les McKeown died

Les McKeown, ex-vocalist for the British pop group Bay City Rollers, passed away at age 66 at his home in London.

“It is with deep regret that we announce the death of Leslie’s beloved husband and father, Richard McKeown. Leslie died suddenly at his home on Tuesday, April 20, 2021,” the musician’s family said in a message posted on his Twitter page on Thursday, April 22.

McKeown joined the Bay City Rollers, a band founded in Edinburgh in 1969, as lead vocalist in 1973. The group has recorded eight albums. The Guardian newspaper wrote that at the time the Bay City Rollers were called the most important band in Great Britain since The Beatles.

Five years later, the musician left the Bay City Rollers and began a solo career. However, already in 1981, the band ceased to exist.
