Former Indian President Mukherjee finds himself in a deep coma with COVID-19

Former Indian President Pranab Mukherjee continues to be in a deep coma. The 84-year-old politician, who was previously diagnosed with a coronavirus infection, is connected to an artificial lung ventilator (IVF). This was reported on Thursday, August 27, by Deccan Herald news portal citing a hospital report.

“The Honorable Sri Pranab Mukherjee continues to be in a deep coma and on an artificial lung ventilator. He is being treated for lung infection and kidney dysfunction. He is hemodynamically stable,” the doctors said.

On August 10, Mukherjee was hospitalized at the Army Research and Specialized Hospital in Delhi. At the time of his admission, the politician was diagnosed with coronavirus. At the hospital he underwent surgery to remove the clot in his brain.

Pranab Mukherjee served as India’s 13th President from 2012 to 2017. He also served as Minister of Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade and Finance at various times in his career, the Times of India said.
