Head of the UN General Assembly welcomed the statement of the “nuclear five”

The chairman of the UN General Assembly Abdullah Shaheed welcomed the statement of the leaders of Russia, US, China, UK and France on preventing the proliferation of nuclear weapons. His spokeswoman, Pauline Kubiak, said this on Monday, January 3.

“UN General Assembly President Abdullah Shaheed welcomes the joint statement by the five nuclear powers, who are also permanent members of the Security Council,” she said .

Kubiak called the right message to the entire planet “commitment to obligations under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), including Article VI obligations, and the desire to strengthen mutual understanding and trust, and to prevent an arms race that will benefit no one and endanger everyone.”

The leaders also recognized the importance of nonproliferation, disarmament, and arms control commitments and pledged commitment to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT).
