In Australia, a deputy prime minister was fined for not wearing a mask in a public place

Police in Australia fined Deputy Prime Minister Barnaby Joyce for violating epidemic requirements, the ABC Television and Radio Corporation reported Tuesday, June 29.

Police were contacted by visitors to a gas station in Armidale, New South Wales, who said Joyce did not wear a medical mask when he visited the station.

“He apologized and cooperated with the officers, who remained persistent and fair,” said Deputy Police Commissioner Gary Waroboys.

Joyce was fined A$200 ($150 U.S.) for violating health regulations.
