A driver intentionally struck and killed a Muslim family in Canada. It reports Reuters.
20-year-old Nathaniel Veltman ran over the family in a pickup truck at high speed and then fled from the scene. Four people were killed at the scene, with only a nine-year-old child surviving.
Police apprehended the perpetrator. He was charged with four counts of murder and one count of attempted murder. It is noted that the man has no criminal record and is not a member of any radical communities.
According to local police senior investigator Paul Waite, Weltman only attacked the family because they were Muslim. “We have evidence that this was a planned, premeditated act motivated by hatred,” he said.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau noted on Twitter that he was frightened by the news of the incident. The politician stressed that Islamophobia has no place in any community in the country, and it must stop.
