In Jerusalem on the eve of Easter the coronavirus closed the temple of the Holy Sepulchre

In Jerusalem, against the background of the spread of coronavirus infection COVID-19 closed the Temple of the Holy Sepulchre, a church built on the site of the burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ. This is reported by Reuters.

The decision was taken after the meeting of Israeli church leaders and authorities, as well as the introduction of new measures to combat coronavirus by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

According to the representative of the Assembly of Catholic Ordinaries of the Holy Land of Abu Nassar, the closing of the temple was on the eve of Easter. If the coronavirus continues to spread, the Church does not rule out holding festivities elsewhere as part of the new epidemiological rules.

The Jerusalem Temple of the Resurrection is the main shrine of the Christian world. It is believed to stand on the very spot where, according to Holy Scripture, Jesus Christ was crucified, buried, and then resurrected. This place was found by the messengers of the Roman Emperor Constantine three centuries after his crucifixion. Every year on the Great Saturday (this year falls on April 18) on the eve of Orthodox Easter there is a miracle of the descent of the Holy Fire.

According to the American Johns Hopkins University, 2369 cases of coronavirus infection have been confirmed in Israel. Five people died of complications caused by it, 58 more recovered.
