Independent commission will evaluate AstraZeneca vaccine

An independent committee to evaluate undesired reactions in one of the volunteers participating in the third stage of the trial of the new coronavirus vaccine developed by Oxford University in collaboration with AstraZeneca can take from one week to three months. This was announced by the president of the Italian company IRBM Piero di Lorenzo, participating in the project.

“We are waiting for the conclusion of an independent scientific committee. If it arrives within a few weeks, the research will continue at once”, – his portal Fanpage quotes.

According to him, vaccination of 50 thousand people in five countries is currently suspended. The scientific committee will examine the case of a volunteer who has a complication. He added that the first doses of vaccine may be received by the end of this year.

The day before it was reported that AstraZeneca has suspended trials of its COVID-19 vaccine worldwide. The reason for this decision was that one of the UK volunteers was found to have an unexplained disease. The developers took a pause to analyze data on the drug’s safety.

The University of Oxford noted that the suspension of trials was a routine procedure.
