Indian resident kept his wife locked in a toilet for a year and half

A resident of the Indian city of Panipat was released after a year and a half of imprisonment in the toilet, where her husband placed her. This was reported on Thursday, October 15, by Daily Mail with reference to local mass media.

Neighbors of the spouses appealed to the district officer on protection of women. Police found a 35-year-old mother of three children locked in a 0.8 square meter toilet. She had spent the last 18 months in this room, and her husband did not always give her food and water. The woman was so exhausted that she could not get up on her own.

The victim’s husband claimed that his wife was mentally ill and was being treated for the disorder, but did not provide documentation to prove this.

The man was placed under arrest. The victim was first taken to hospital and then placed in the care of his cousin.
