Iran stops decryption of Ukrainian Boeing recorders due to COVID-19

In Iran, the decoding of recorders for the Ukrainian Boeing 737-800 shot down over Tehran has been suspended due to the situation with the COVID-19 coronavirus infection. This was announced by the Iranian Minister of Roads and Urban Construction Mohammad Eslami.

“Due to the coronavirus, the decryption work has been suspended”.

The decryption of black boxes will continue when the country’s COVID-19 proliferation situation normalizes, Eslami said.

In February, five countries called on Iran to provide recorders from a shot-down aircraft.

January 8 saw a plane crash in Tehran, which killed 176 people. A little later, Iran admitted that Iran’s air defense system mistakenly shot down a passenger plane of Ukraine International Airlines, taking it as a cruise missile.
