Istanbul will host the 2023 UEFA Champions League final instead of Munich, the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) said on July 16.
The 2020/21 Champions League final was scheduled to take place in Istanbul’s Olympic Stadium, but it was moved to Porto due to an increase in COVID-19 illnesses.
“After the 2021 UEFA Champions League final was moved from Istanbul to Porto, it was decided to transfer the venue for the 2023 UEFA Champions League final to the Ataturk Olympic Stadium in Istanbul,” the statement said.
In addition, Istanbul will host the European club season kick-off tournament at the end of August, which includes group stage draws for the UEFA Champions League, the UEFA Europa League and the UEFA European Conference League 2022/23 season.
The 2023 UEFA Champions League final, originally scheduled to be held in Munich, will be moved to 2025. The Bavarian capital will host the 2025 Champions League final instead of 2023. Wembley Stadium will retain the right to host the 2024 UEFA Champions League final.
Dublin will host the 2024 UEFA Europa League final and Bilbao will host the 2024 UEFA Women’s Champions League final and the 2025 UEFA Europa League final.
