Latvia did not recognize Tikhanovskaya’s victory in the presidential elections in Belarus

The Latvian authorities cannot recognize Svetlana Tikhanovskaya as the winner of the presidential election in Belarus. This was stated by Foreign Minister of the Baltic Republic Edgars Rinkevich on the air of the Latvian TV on Wednesday, August 19.

According to the Minister, no one knows the real results of elections in Belarus because of “large-scale falsification.

“There is information that the ballots were burnt afterwards, and nobody can say what the real distribution of votes was,” he stressed. However, this information has not been confirmed.

The head of the Foreign Ministry noted that the repeated voting in Belarus should be held with the participation of the international observers, as the National Assembly reports.

Earlier Wednesday, former presidential candidate Svetlana Tikhanovskaya released a video message to the European Council.

She urged not to recognize the rigged elections. According to her, current President Alexander Lukashenko has lost legitimacy in the eyes of his people and the world.
