Lebanese Judge Fadi Sawwan, who is investigating the circumstances of the explosion at Beirut’s seaport, has issued an arrest warrant for former Minister of Public Works and Transportation Youssef Fenianos, Al-Jadeed reported on February 17, citing a high-ranking judicial source.

The source said the former official was accused of criminal negligence, which led to the tragedy and loss of life.

It is noted that the judge decided to issue the warrant after Fenianos formally refused to appear for questioning on Wednesday.

Last August 4, there was a massive explosion at a warehouse in the port of Beirut, Lebanon. More than 150 people were killed and more than 6,000 were injured with varying degrees of severity. As a result of the explosion about 4 thousand buildings were fully or partially destroyed.

According to the official version of the authorities, detonated about 2.75 thousand tons of ammonium nitrate seized by the customs six years ago. It later emerged that the owner of the ship Rhosus, which delivered a cargo of nitrate to the port of Beirut in 2013, was Russian businessman Igor Grechushkin.

On January 12, Interpol put two Russian citizens, including Grechushkin, and a Portuguese man on the wanted list in connection with the Beirut port explosion.
