Presidents Emmanuelle Macron and Vladimir Putin of France and Russia had a telephone conversation. This was reported by the Elysee Palace on Monday, August 14.

The heads of countries discussed a number of international issues, including the situation with blogger Alexei Navalny. Thus, Macron said during the conversation that France, on the basis of its own research, shares the conclusions of a number of states about the fact of poisoning with the substance “Beginner”, which violates international norms of chemical weapons use.

The French president also said that the republic was in solidarity with Germany regarding the steps to be taken against the background of the blogger’s situation and called on Russia to conduct a thorough investigation.

“It is necessary that Russia clarify the situation through a thorough and transparent investigation,” reports the Macron administration.

In turn, the spokesman for the Russian president, Dmitry Peskov, confirmed that a telephone conversation between the leaders of France and Russia had indeed taken place, but did not provide details of the conversation.

Earlier that day, the German government issued a statement claiming that special laboratories in France and Sweden, which conducted repeated studies of Navalny samples, allegedly confirmed the poisoning with the substance of the “Novichok” group.
