Emmanuelle Macron on the French channel BFMTV announced new measures against coronavirus. In particular, curfews will be introduced in the Ile-de-France region, to which Paris belongs, as well as in eight other major metropolitan areas.

Emmanuelle Macron
French President
We must take stricter measures. We will introduce a curfew that will apply to the Ile de France (or Paris region) and eight megacities in addition to it. These are the metropolises of Grenoble, Lille, Rouen, Lyon, Aix Marseille, Saint Etienne, Toulouse and Montpellier. These regions belong to the red zone. But we will not restrict movement: from 9 p.m. until 6 a.m. there will be a strict ban on “friends and parties”. We are trying to limit the possibility of coronavirus proliferation.

He called the curfew a relevant measure to counter the second wave. According to him, the country should slow down the pace of virus spreading. The situation in France, as Macron said, is alarming: there are now detected 20 thousand cases of infection per day, and the president intends to introduce measures that would reduce this figure to 3-5 thousand.

European countries in general are tightening quarantine. Earlier in the Czech Republic new additional restrictions came into force due to the coronavirus proliferation. They touched upon cultural sphere, sport and religion. Also full lockdown is allowed in the country.

It will operate from 9 p.m. to 6 a. m.
