An emergency regime was introduced in Mauritius due to a spill of oil products. The fuel leak came from a Japanese cargo ship.

In late July, Wakashio ran aground near Blue Bay beach. There were about 4 thousand tons of oil products on board. The spill threatens coral reefs off the coast of Mauritius.

Mauritius has asked the UN for help, and the crew have been evacuated.
